Fishing has more recently evolved from a method of survival to a sport enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. Although many sports fishermen keep and eat what they catch, many now practice catch-and-release. After a fish is caught, it is released back into the wild without permanent harm. Fishermen can be found fishing from the shore, piers, or boats on both bodies of fresh and saltwater. In many places fishing is regulated to protect the populations by requiring the fishermen to purchase licenses or permits. Different fish can legally be caught only during certain times of the year. This leaves the fishermen much free time to dream of catching fish.
Online fishing games have become a popular substitute for the real thing. Anglers with internet access can now sit down and virtually fish for the big catch right from their chairs. Many online fishing games are free for the user, and the large variety of games keeps them occupied for hours.
Fishing has evolved from just fishing for food to feed a family, to fishing for fun in front of your computer. One thing remains the same. There will always be stories about that really big fish that got away!
